Myriam Thomas est une artiste multidisciplinaire basée à Moncton originaire de la Péninsule acadienne. Elle explore maints thèmes autant introspectifs qu’anticapitalistes, dont la performance à l’ère du Surveillance State, la féminité comme outil de marketing et le rapport identitaire avec ses cheveux de femme noire. Guidée par une nostalgie constante, elle mêle contes de fées à journal intime pour créer son propre univers fictif nommé « Saint-Aristaeus », une ode-critique de l’Acadie de son enfance, celle d’aujourd’hui, et, qui sais, peut-être aussi celle de demain. 

Sachant pourtant qu’une image vaut mille mots, elle ne peut s’empêcher d’en rajouter. Sa pratique se divise donc – et se complète – en trois parties : photographie, musique et littérature. Que ce soit de l’autoportrait ou des chansons, son travail porte principalement sur la création de personnages. Ayant complété son baccalauréat en littérature avec une mineure en arts visuels à l’Université de Moncton en 2025, elle entame maintenant sa maîtrise en recherche-création mêlant toutes les facettes de sa pratique, désirant creuser la question de la représentation des personnes noires en littérature acadienne.

Myriam Thomas is a multidisciplinary artist based in Moncton and originally from the Acadian Peninsula. She explores a wide range of themes—both introspective and anti-capitalist—including performance in the age of the Surveillance State, femininity as a marketing tool, and the relationship between identity and her hair as a Black woman. Guided by a constant sense of nostalgia, she blends fairy tales with diary entries to create her own fictional universe called “Saint-Aristaeus,” a critical ode to the Acadia of her childhood, the Acadia of today, and, who knows, perhaps also the Acadia of tomorrow.

Yet knowing that a picture is worth a thousand words, she can’t help but add more. Her practice is thus divided—and complemented—into three parts: photography, music, and literature. Whether through self-portraiture or songs, her work focuses primarily on character creation. Having completed her bachelor’s degree in literature with a minor in visual arts at the University of Moncton in 2025, she is now beginning her master’s degree in research-creation, blending all facets of her practice, with the aim of exploring the representation of Black people in Acadian literature.
