Somnia Lucent (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist and environmental activist living in rural Epekwitk/PEI. She is currently pursuing a BSc in Applied Climate Change and Adaptation at UPEI and the Canadian Center for Climate Change and Adaptation. Growing up in Saskatchewan, the land of the living skies, between the boreal forest and aspen parkland, was influential in guiding her exploration of the relationship between environmental consciousness and scientific inquiry. By weaving art and science, her work encourages an open dialogue about climate change, environmental stewardship, and our shared responsibility to care for the Earth. It is through playfulness that her practice creates accessible pathways for understanding and engagement, while navigating the complexities of living in a time of environmental uncertainty. When not pursuing art and science, you can find her dancing (often with Sadie, her tortie cat), as movement and celebration are essential for balancing her engagement with the world around her.

Somnia Lucent (elle) est une artiste multidisciplinaire et une militante écologiste vivant dans une région rurale de l’Epekwitk/Île-du-Prince-Édouard. Elle poursuit actuellement un baccalauréat en sciences appliquées sur les changements climatiques et l’adaptation à l’Université de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard (UPEI) ainsi qu’au Centre canadien sur les changements climatiques et l’adaptation. Ayant grandi en Saskatchewan, terre des cieux vivants, entre la forêt boréale et les forêts-parcs de peupliers faux-trembles, a grandement influencé son exploration du lien entre la conscience environnementale et la recherche scientifique. En tissant l’art et la science, son travail encourage un dialogue ouvert sur les changements climatiques, la responsabilité écologique et notre devoir commun de prendre soin de la Terre. C’est à travers le jeu que sa pratique crée des voies d’accès à la compréhension et à l’engagement, tout en naviguant dans les complexités de la vie à une époque marquée par l’incertitude environnementale. Lorsqu’elle ne se consacre pas à l’art ou à la science, on peut la trouver en train de danser (souvent avec Sadie, son chat écaille-de-tortue), car le mouvement et la célébration sont essentiels pour équilibrer son lien avec le monde qui l’entoure.
