Jaeyoung Chong

Jaeyoung Chong est un violoncelliste reconnu comme étant un musicien de profonde sensibilité. Il est passionné par de nombreux moyens d'expression artistiques tels que l'improvisation, la performance créative en direct, la composition, la technologie électroacoustique et la production musicale. Né en Corée du Sud, Chong commence à jouer le violoncelle à l'âge de 8 ans. Au courant de ses études, la composition et l'improvisation ont joué un grand rôle dans sa vie et il expérimente toujours avec la production musicale. Grâce à une bourse fournie par le MID, il a créé et autoproduit son album intitulé Nostalgia qui a récemment reçu le prix Enregistrement de l'année des prix MNB. À partir de cet automne, l’artiste commencera son Doctorat en Music Performance Studies à McGill et poursuivra ses recherches en technologie audio et en improvisation.

Jaeyoung Chong is a trained and established cellist. He is a profound and passionate musician in many mediums such as improvisation, creative live performance, composition, electroacoustic technology and music production. Born in South Korea, Chong started playing the cello at the age of 8 years old. Throughout his performance studies, composition and improvisation have been a big part of his life and he is now diving deeper into music production. Through an emerging artist grant provided by MID, he created his self-produced album Nostalgia which recently received “Recording of the Year” from the Music New Brunswick Awards. Chong will commence his Doctorate in Music Performance Studies at McGill this fall, and will continue his study and research in audio technology and improvisation.
